The city of Ventura will enter the age of legal cannabis retail by licensing six dispensaries, not the three it had previously planned for, and those stores could start opening in early September. Three of the retail permits will go the three dispensaries chosen by the city in a competitive process last year . The other three will be picked from among the five dispensary operators that were passed over in the final round of that process. The increase in permits was approved Monday by the Ventura City Council, as part of a settlement negotiated with the five finalists that didn't win permits last year.
